The difference between a manicure that lasts 2 weeks and one that looks great at 3 weeks is entirely in your daily habits. Here are the seven things our best-maintained clients consistently do between visits.

1. Apply Cuticle Oil Every Night

This is non-negotiable. Jojoba or almond-based cuticle oil applied nightly keeps the nail plate hydrated and flexible, preventing the lifting and peeling that shortens manicure life. Gently push the oil under the free edge and massage it into the surrounding skin.

2. Wear Gloves for Dishwashing

Prolonged water exposure is the number-one enemy of gel polish. The nail plate expands when wet and contracts when dry — this cycle slowly lifts gel from the edges. One pair of rubber gloves turns a nail-destroying chore into a safe one.

3. Avoid Using Nails as Tools

Opening packages, prying lids, scratching labels — these stress the nail plate at the point where it meets the free edge. One bad prying motion can snap a nail or lift gel from the tip. Use your fingertips or a key instead.

4. File Only in One Direction

Sawing back and forth splits the nail layers at the free edge and creates micro-tears that lead to peeling. Always file in a single stroke from the side edge toward the center, and use a fine-grit file (180 grit or higher).

5. Keep Nails Away From Hot Water

Washing dishes is covered — but also be mindful of long hot showers. The heat softens the nail plate and makes gel more susceptible to lifting. A cooler rinse at the end of a shower makes a real difference.

6. Moisturize Hands After Washing

Every time you wash your hands, you strip the natural oils from your skin and nail bed. A quick application of hand cream after drying replenishes moisture and keeps cuticles supple.

7. Don't Pick at Peeling Polish

If an edge starts to lift, resist the urge to pick. Picking pulls off the nail's top layers with the gel, leaving thin, weakened nails. File the lifted edge smooth instead, or visit us for a quick repair before it spreads.
